What is PineMark?
PineMark is the first green lifestyle certification. We are an independent, third party organization that is establishing the PineMark Certification as the national standard for individuals. Individual emissions make up about 40% of the total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, but efforts usually focus on the commercial and industrial aspects. We are focused on YOU. PineMark is committed to helping you save money and save the planet. What does the PineMark score mean?
The PineMark score signifies how environmentally friendly you live your lifestyle. It is calculated through four different components: Energy, Transportation, Water, and Lifestyle. The score is based on a range of 1-100, with 1 representing the lowest possible score and 100 as the best. For more information, please visit our Methodology page. Why should I join?

What makes this different than a carbon calculator?
While some of the questions PineMark asks when you are applying for certification may seem similar to standard carbon calculators, PineMark's scoring system goes beyond just measuring your carbon footprint. PineMark aims to gain a comprehensive picture of your lifestyle, collecting data about your carbon emissions, water use, and lifestyle choices. Furthermore, PineMark does not just sum your carbon outputs— we rate your data, validate what you have entered, and offer certification to qualifying individuals.
In other words, your carbon load helps us determine your overall PineMark score, but it is only one component of the PineMark score and PineMark Certification. We recognize that to gain an accurate measure of the comprehensive impact you have on the environment, and to prove that measure to others, you need more than just a carbon calculator— you need PineMark.
